China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan port, one of many world’s busiest, reported an explosion aboard a container ship on Friday, Chinese language state media reported, creating shock waves felt as much as a kilometer away.
No casualties or accidents had been reported after the explosion on YM Mobility, a cargo ship owned by Taiwanese transport firm Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp, at round 1:40 p.m. (0540 GMT), China’s official Xinhua information company reported.
The explosion amongst containers close to the bow of the Liberian-flagged ship triggered cargo to disperse and left a plume of black smoke, China Central Tv (CCTV) footage confirmed.
The ship, at the moment docked on the port’s Beilun Terminal, was carrying harmful items, the Ningbo Maritime Search and Rescue Middle stated.
Though the ship’s crew and dock employees had been protected, some firm places of work situated close to the dock had been hit by shock waves from the explosion, state-run newspaper Qilu Night Information reported.
“Our home windows had been broken and the roof of our eating room collapsed somewhat,” an worker at an affected firm situated about 1 km (0.6 miles) from the ship instructed Qilu Night Information.
The large port, situated in China’s jap Zhejiang province, is operated by Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co.
It is usually a significant Chinese language port for loading and unloading oil from crude carriers.
