A person was killed by an offended mob for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran within the picturesque Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northwestern Pakistan, and eight folks had been injured within the riots that adopted, police mentioned.
District Police Officer (DPO), Swat, Zahidullah mentioned that the person from Punjab’s Sialkot district allegedly burnt some pages of the Holy Quran in Madyan tehsil of Swat on Thursday evening.
The suspect was arrested and brought to the Madyan police station. A mob gathered in entrance of the police station and demanded his give up. When the police refused to take action, the mob opened fireplace and the police retaliated. One particular person was severely injured within the trade of fireplace and was shifted to Madyan Hospital, the DPO mentioned.
The mob then set fireplace to the police station. Later, some folks entered the police station, shot the suspect, dragged his physique to Madyan Adda and hung it there, Zahidullah mentioned.
Eight folks had been injured within the unrest sparked by the incident. Heavy police deployment has been made in Madyan and efforts are being made to regulate the state of affairs, he added.
KPK Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took observe of the desecration incident and requested a report from the provincial police chief.
The CM directed the IGP to take emergency measures to regulate the state of affairs and urged folks to stay calm and peaceable.
