The Israeli army stated a missile fired from Yemen crossed into central Israel on Sunday (September 15, 2024) and “fell in an open space.”
The army stated in an announcement that “a surface-to-surface missile was recognized crossing into central Israel from the east and touchdown in an open space. No accidents had been reported.”
“The missile was fired from Yemen,” it added in an announcement despatched shortly earlier than 7:00 a.m. (04:00 GMT).
“The explosive sounds heard in the previous few minutes are from the interceptors. The results of the interception is underneath evaluation.”
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been launching assaults towards Israel and its pursuits in what they are saying is solidarity with Palestinians in the course of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas within the Gaza Strip.
The rebels belong to Iran’s so-called “axis of resistance,” which incorporates Tehran-backed militant teams in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have launched a collection of missile and drone assaults towards Israel-linked ships within the Gulf of Aden and the Pink Sea.
And in July 2024, they carried out a drone strike in Tel Aviv that killed an Israeli civilian.
In response, Israeli warplanes bombed the Houthi-controlled Yemeni port of Hodeida, with one insurgent official vowing on the time to “reply to escalation with escalation.”
