Russia’s Federal Safety Service (FSB) stated on July 26 that Dmitry Bulgakov, a former deputy protection minister, had been arrested and charged with corruption, the Interfax information company reported.
In response to the state information company RIA, the FSB has reported that an investigation is underway to find out the details associated to Bulgakov’s alleged “unlawful actions”, who has been despatched to a pre-trial detention centre in Moscow.
Bulgakov, who was in command of navy logistics till he was dismissed in September 2022, is the newest in a collection of high-profile figures within the Protection Ministry to be accused of corruption.
The arrests are the most important scandal to hit the Russian navy in years and are available as new Protection Minister Andrei Belousov, an economist with no navy expertise, has been tasked with purging the military of corruption and streamlining its funds to fund what Moscow calls its “particular navy operation” in Ukraine.
The marketing campaign in opposition to high-level corruption started on April 23 with the arrest of Deputy Protection Minister Timur Ivanov, a detailed ally of former Protection Minister Sergei Shoigu.
Since then, a minimum of 5 navy and protection officers have been arrested.
The Kremlin has performed down the sooner arrests and stated different Russian state companies have been concerned in related anti-corruption efforts.
Mr Bulgakov, 69, is a graduate of Russian navy academies and has held a number of logistics posts within the military, in accordance with his official biography.
He served as deputy protection minister till he was changed in 2022 and has obtained a number of main navy and civilian awards, together with the Hero of Russia award, the nation’s highest honor.
