Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been acquitted in 5 separate instances, together with one filed over allegations of celebrating a “faux birthday” and one other for supporting struggle criminals, a media outlet reported on Tuesday (3 September 2024).
The courtroom of Dhaka Further Chief Metropolitan Justice of the Peace Mahbubul Haque issued acquittal orders in 4 instances, whereas the courtroom of Further Chief Metropolitan Justice of the Peace Tofazzal Hossain acquitted her in a single case on Tuesday. The Dhaka Tribune The newspaper reported.
The accused, Bangladesh Nationalist Get together (BNP) chairwoman Ms Zia, 79, was acquitted after the complainant failed to seem in courtroom.
In August 2016, a journalist filed a criticism towards Ms Zia for celebrating a “faux birthday”.
The criticism alleged that though 5 completely different delivery dates for Ms Zia had been discovered by varied sources, none was August 15.
He stated that regardless of this, he has been celebrating his birthday on August 15, which is the nationwide day of mourning commemorating the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman since 1996.

In January 2017, Mr Siddique filed a defamation swimsuit accusing Ms Zia of slandering Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Awami League.
The case mentions a speech made by Ms Zia as chief visitor on the Chhatra Dal’s anniversary celebration in December 2016, wherein she allegedly stated that Bangabandhu Rahman didn’t need independence for Bangladesh however aspired to develop into the prime minister of an undivided Pakistan.
The criticism alleged that his assertion was defamatory.
In January 2016, Siddique filed a criticism towards Ms Zia and BNP chief Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for derogatory remarks about victims of the Liberation Conflict.
In November 2016, the BNP chairman was charged in one other defamation and risk to homicide case filed by Siddique.
